The Controller Consultant/Director of Finance Consultant fulfills the function of “guardian” on the accounting team by doing the following for clients:
Recurring Services:
- Producing standard and advanced financial reports, both historical and future-facing
- Performing quality control over the Bookkeeping and Treasury functions
- Ensuring that integrated financial systems tie out
- Analyzing cash, revenue, expenses, profitability, CapEx, debt service, receivables, payables, and other financial metrics and areas of note
- Conducting finance compliance-related research, liaising with subject matter experts where necessary, & providing recommendations to reduce risk
- Reviewing contracts with vendors, customers, donors, sponsors, members, or clients
- Researching cost savings opportunities
- Fulfilling detailed tasks for outside financial parties such as a tax preparer and independent auditor
- Maintaining internal controls
Project Services:
- Effecting accounting system conversions
- Performing accounting system setups and cleanups
- Directing bookkeeping catch-up projects
- Recommending and implementing 3rd party financial apps
- Producing custom future-facing tools: dynamic financial models, 13-week rolling cash flow forecasts, annual budgets, and dynamic dashboards
- Particularly prized, but not required, is the ability to program Excel macros using VBA
